Bisexual Invisibility : Like ships passing in the night.

Where I live in New England society has become more accepting of bisexuals and others who have variations in sexual orientation and gender identity, that acceptance has me wanting to fling the doors of the closet open and shout out to find others  like me.

A year or so after I came out my wife wanted to show her love for me and her acceptance so she gave me a bisexual themed watch for my birthday. I also found these wonderful bi and gay pride bracelets from Tiffanys Soulful Pride Hemp . They are simple rope friendship bracelets but they are awesome symbols of acceptance and visibility. . In the eight  years I have worn these bracelets a few bisexuals have immediately recognised the colors and known that I was one of them. The “You, me too!” and “I understands” that follow are so important to me  because no one knows the joys and the challenges of being a bisexual like another bisexual . When the invisible becomes visible that's how we can find each other. Bisexuals look just like everyone else because we are everyone else so we need a way to recognise each other if for nothing else a knowing smile and the message that you are not alone.

My post about the secret bisexual handshake was one effort to explain this need to be visible. I wish more people could be comfortable enough to wear their bisexuality on their sleeve. Find a bi pride bracelet, a shirt , anything. A side benefit of my wearing a bi pride bracelet is the daily reminder that I am me and that is fabulous. When people do inquire about the interesting colors on my bracelet it offers me a chance to sit and chat with those who want to know more about us, acceptance comes naturally when we share our stories.

Tiffany's Soulful Pride Hemp  bi pride bracelets go nicely with my purple Fitbit.
