Bisexual Resource Guide to Coming Out as Bisexual

Living life openly, with integrity and pride as the bisexual we were born as can be incredibly rewarding but our society has not always made coming out easy. The coming out process often involves sharing something deeply personal with people that are close to us and many are terrified that coming out as bisexual could negatively impact our most important relationships. We can’t un-come out if it does not go well and that fear of being cast aside keeps many in the closet of fear for decades. This is an involuntary closet forced on many by the bigoted no place for bisexuals message that we hear every day. Even with this fear and societies negative messaging many bisexuals want their wives, husbands, parents and children to know who they really are and struggle with how to open that door to sharing an important conversation. I have found that with experience the coming out process becomes easier but the paradox is how do we gain an understanding of how to come out as bisexual without the experience.

I would like to see the day where bisexuals become more comfortable with who they are. I am saddened at how difficult so many bisexuals find it to be out. Some bisexuals have been married 20,30,40 years and their spouses still don’t know. As children grow up they need role models as they come to understand their own sexual orientation and nothing says acceptance like Mom or Dad is bisexual too, yet so many bisexual parents have not found a way to be out . I dream of a world where bisexuals become so comfortable with themselves that they share their real selves on their first date. My hope is that with role models and visibility bisexuality will become so well known and so well understood that it becomes like discussing any other aspect of ourselves.

“I like music and enjoy playing the guitar, oh ya I’m bi.” How cool would it be to have it just that simple.

A terrific resource for bisexuals considering coming out is The Human Rights Campaign “Resource Guide to Coming Out as Bisexual” that is packed with helpful information. It is a tremendous resource both for bisexuals as well as those who love them . To download your own copy visit the HRC website or follow the link below.
